History of Shark Key
Charted in the 1800's, Shark Key was named by early surveyors for its shark-like shape. Coral rock excavated from nearby lagoons is used extensively in guardrail columns, mailbox pedestals, and gateways. Heavy chains, salvaged from a decommissioned Navy ship, line the winding streets.
